Teaching Profession (Amendment) [No. 4 of 2023 79 An Act to amend the Teaching Profession Act. [ 18th April, 2023 ENACTED by the Parliament of Zambia. 1. This Act may be cited as the Teaching Profession (Amendment) Act, 2023, and shall be read as one with the Teaching Profession Act, 2013, in this Act referred to as the principal Act. 2. Section 2 of the principal Act is amended by the insertion of the following new definitions in the appropriate places in alphabetical order: “Higher Education Authority” means the Higher Education Authority established under the Higher Education Act, 2013; and “Zambia Qualifications Authority” means the Zambia Qualifications Authority established under the Zambia Qualifications Authority Act, 2011;. 3. Section 6 (1) of the principal Act is amended by the— (a) deletion of paragraph (c); (b) deletion of paragraph (d) and the substitution therefor of the following: (d) promote continuing professional development among teachers;; and (c) renumbering of paragraphs (d), (e), (f), (g), (h), (i), (j), (k), (l), (m) and (n) as paragraphs (c), (d), (e), (f), (g), (h), (i), (j), (k), (l) and (m), respectively. agraphs (d), (e), (f), (g), (h), (i), (j), (k), (l), (m) and (n) as paragraphs (c), (d), (e), (f), (g), (h), (i), (j), (k), (l) and (m), respectively. Section 11 (1) of the principal Act is amended by the deletion of paragraph (b) and the substitution therefor of the following: (b) holds a qualification accredited and recognised by the Zambia Qualifications Authority;. 5. Section 28 of the principal Act is amended by the — (a) deletion of subsection (1); and (b) renumbering of subsections (2), (3) and (4) as subsections (1), (2) and (3), respectively. 6. Sections 31, 32, 33, 34 and 35 of the principal Act are repealed. 7. The principal Act is amended by the repeal of section 36 and the substitution therefor of the following: 36. The Minister may, by statutory instrument, on the recommendation of the Council, make Regulations to provide for— (a) continuing professional development to be undertaken by teachers; and (b) the criteria for the recognition by the Council of continuing professional development. 8. Section 37 of the principal Act is repealed. 9. The principal Act is amended by the repeal of Part V. 10. l of continuing professional development. 8. Section 37 of the principal Act is repealed. 9.
