ENACTED by the Parliament of Zambia 1. (1) This Act may be cited as the Standards (Amendment) Act, 2026, and shall be read as one with the Standards Act, in this Act referred to as the principal Act (2) This Act shall come into operation on the expiry of the term of office, or removal by the Minister, of the members of the Board holding office prior to the enactment of this Act, after which the Minister shall appoint the members of the Board in accordance with this Act. 2. Section 2 of the principal Act is amended by the insertion of the following new definition in the appropriate place in alphabetical order: “legally disqualified” means the absence of legal capacity as provided under section 4 of the Mental Health Act;. 3. Section 6 of the principal Act is amended— (a) by the deletion of subsection (1) and the substitution therefor of the following: (1) There is constituted the Board of the Bureau which consists of the following part-time members appointed by the Minister: (a) a representative from the ministry responsible for commerce and industry; Standards (Amendment) [No. 58 of 2026 717 Cap. 416 Cap. by the Minister: (a) a representative from the ministry responsible for commerce and industry; Standards (Amendment) [No. 58 of 2026 717 Cap. 416 Cap. 305 Amendment of section 2 Amendment of section 6 Enactment Short title and commence- ment GOVERNMENT OF ZAMBIA ACT No. 58 of 2026 Date of Assent: 4th June, 2026 An Act to amend the Standards Act [12th June, 2026 Single copies of this Act may be obtained from the Government Printer, P.O. Box 30136, 10101 Lusaka, Price K4.00 each. 718 No. 58 of 2026] Standards (Amendment) Amendment of section 8 (b) a representative of the Attorney-General; (c) a representative of the Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry; (d) a representative of an association representing the manufacturers; and (e) three persons, from the private sector, with knowledge and experience in matters relating to this Act.; (b) by the insertion of the following new subsection immediately after subsection (1): (2) The ministry, institutions and organisations referred to in subsection (1) shall nominate their representatives for appointment by the Minister.; (c) in subsection (4), by the deletion of paragraph (c) and the substitution therefor of the following: (c) is legally disqualified from performing the functions of a member;; and (d) by the renumbering of subsections (2), (3), (4), (5), (6), (7), (8) and (9) as subsections (3), (4), (5), (6), (7), (8), (9) and (10), respectively. 4. Section 8(4) of the principal Act is amended by the deletion of the word “Four” and the substitution therefor of the word “Five”.
