An Act to amend the National Museums Act. [ 12th June, 2026
ENACTED by the Parliament of Zambia. 1. (1) This Act may be cited as the National Museums
(Amendment) Act, 2026, and shall be read as one with the National
Museums Act, in this Act referred to as the principal Act. (2) This Act shall come into operation on the expiry of the
term of office, or removal by the Minister, of the members of the
Board holding office prior to the enactment of this Act, after which
the Minister shall appoint the members of the Board in accordance
with this Act. 2. Section 2 of the principal Act is amended by the insertion of
the following new definitions in the appropriate places in alphabetical
order:
“House of Chiefs” means the House of Chiefs established
under the Constitution;
“Zambia Institute of Marketing” means the Zambia Institute
of Marketing established under the Zambia Institute of
Marketing Act, 2022. Enactment

3. Section 5 of the principal Act is amended by the—
(a) deletion of subsection (1) and the substitution therefor of
the following:
(1) The Board consists of the following part-
time members appointed by the Minister:
(a) a representative each of the ministries
responsible for—
(i) culture; and
(ii) finance;
(b) a representative of the Attorney-General;
(c) a chief nominated by the House of Chiefs;
(d) a representative of the Tourism Council of
Zambia;
(e) a representative of the Zambia Institute of
Marketing;
(f) a representative of an institution undertaking
research in matters relevant to this Act;
(g) a representative of the University of Zambia
and Allied Workers Union; and
(h) one person with knowledge and experience in
matters relevant to this Act.;
(b) insertion of the following new subsections immediately
after subsection (1):
(2) The ministries, institutions and
organisations referred to in subsection (1) shall
nominate their representatives for appointment by the
Minister. (3) The Minister shall appoint the Chairperson
from among the members of the Board.; and
(c) renumbering of subsections (2), (3) and (4) as
subsections (4), (5) and (6), respectively. 4.

Section 7 of the principal Act is amended by the deletion of
