[No. 33 of 2026 645Health Professions (Amendent) An Act to amend the Health Professions Act. [12th June, 2026 ENACTED by the Parliament of Zambia. 1. (1) This Act may be cited as the Health Professions (Amendment) Act, 2026, and shall be read as one with the Health Professions Act, 2024, in this Act referred to as the principal Act. (2) This Act shall come into operation on the expiry of the term of office, or removal by the Minister, of the members of the Board holding office prior to the enactment of this Act, after which the Minister shall appoint the members of the Board in accordance with this Act. 2. Section 2 of the principal Act is amended by the insertion of the following new definitions in the appropriate places in alphabetical order: “non-governmental organisation” has the meaning assigned to the words in the Non-Governmental Organisations’ Act; and “Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority” means the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority established under the Medicines and Allied Substances Act. Section 5 of the principal Act is amended by the deletion of subsections (1) and (2) and the substitution therefor of the following; (1) There is constituted the Board of the Council consisting of the following part-time members appointed by the Minister: (a) a representative of the ministry responsible for health; (b) a representative of the Attorney- General; (c) a representative of the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority; (d) a representative of the Zambia Medical Association; (e) a dean of a faculty training health professionals at a recognised higher education institution; (f) a representative of the Pharmaceutical Society of Zambia; (g) one representative from the private sector with knowledge and experience in finance or business management; and (h) two persons from the private sector who are distinguished in the service of the health profession. (2) The ministries, institutions and organisations referred to in subsection (1) shall nominate their representatives for appointment by the Minister. Amendment of section 5
