ENTITLED
STATUTORY INSTRUMENTS (AMENDMENT) ACT, 2007
AN ACT to amend the Statutory Instruments Act, 1959 (No. 52) of 1959 to increase the penalty
that may be imposed in statutory instruments. DATE OF ASSENT: 20th August, 2007. ENACTED by the President and Parliament:
Section 1—Section 9 of Statutory Instruments Act, 1959 amended
The Statutory Instruments Act, 1959 (No. 52) of 1959 as amended is further amended by the
repeal of section 9 and the insertion of the following:
''9 Penalties. (1) There may be included in a statutory instrument which contains a prohibition or
requirement, a provision that a person who fails to comply with that prohibition or requirement
is liable to penalties. (2) A penalty prescribed for an offence by virtue of this section, shall be not more than a fine
of one hundred and fifty penalty units or imprisonment for a term of one year or both and in
the case of a continuing offence, an additional penalty of not more than five penalty units may
be prescribed by the instrument for each day on which the offence continues.

Section 2—Repeal
The Statutory Instruments (Amendment) Act, 1997 (Act 539) is hereby repealed. Date of Gazette Notification: 24th August, 2007. 2
